Mo vs. MetaMask
MetaMask and Mo are both self-custodial, but their trade costs, gas, and stock access differ. Here are the details from MetaMask's own help center.
No recovery phrase (mnemonic) to write down. Mo's embedded wallet is self-custodial without one.
MetaMask generates a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase (mnemonic) at setup. It is the master key to the wallet and unrecoverable if lost. Source
Gas is sponsored through Coinbase's Paymaster for supported actions on Base, so most sends and swaps clear without a separate charge.
Network gas is paid by the user for onchain transactions.
Mo Trade charges a 10 bps (0.10%) integration fee on Free and no Mo surcharge with Mo Plus. Vendor conversion and network costs, when applicable, are shown in the quote.
MetaMask charges 87.5 bps (0.875%) on Ondo tokenized-stock trades, plus network gas.
Bank deposits are free; bank withdrawals run 1% on Free, 0.5% with Mo Plus.
The MetaMask Card charges 1% on cross-border purchases (free on the $199/year Metal tier) and a 2% ATM fee (free up to $1,200/month on Metal).
Base is home, but Mo also receives ETH and USDC sent to your address on Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, and Arbitrum, then sweeps it to USDC on Base.
MetaMask supports Ethereum and other EVM networks, added or switched manually per network.
USDC is the core asset. Mo also supports ETH, cbBTC, cbHYPE, SOL, other fiat-pegged stablecoins, and Coinbase's tokenized US stocks.
Any ERC-20 token can be added by contract address across MetaMask's supported networks.
Coinbase's tokenized US stocks trade with live pricing for eligible non-US users, right inside Trade.
Eligible users can access hundreds of Ondo tokenized stocks, ETFs, and commodities in MetaMask Swap on Ethereum and BNB Chain.
Mo Points accrue from holding a balance, Travel spend, and referrals, worth $0.01 each toward Travel checkout, a bank-withdrawal-fee offset, Mo Plus, or Mystery Stock. See Rewards.
