Mo vs. Phantom

Phantom and Mo both offer self-custody, but their trade costs, gas, and tokenized-stock access differ. Here are the details from Phantom's own help center.

MoPhantom
Seed phrases

Nothing to write down. Mo's embedded wallet authorizes transactions with your device, self-custody without a recovery phrase.

Phantom's standard setup gives you a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase (mnemonic). It is the root every key is derived from, and Phantom can't restore it if it's lost. Source

Gas needed for transactions

Gas is sponsored via Coinbase's Paymaster for supported Base actions, so most sends and swaps skip a separate gas charge.

The first send from a new Phantom wallet needs a one-time network fee of about $0.16 to open the token account; gas after that is paid by the user. Source

Trade cost

Mo Trade charges a 10 bps (0.10%) integration fee on Free and no Mo surcharge with Mo Plus. Vendor conversion and network costs, when applicable, are shown in the quote.

Phantom charges 0.85% on select swaps, plus variable network and route fees.

Low-cost onramp/offramp

Bank deposits are free; withdrawals run 1% on Free, 0.5% with Mo Plus.

Funding Phantom's debit card costs 1.75% by debit card and 3.5% by credit card; ACH deposits run 0.3% and wires 1%. Source

Multichain support

Base is home, but Mo also receives ETH and USDC sent to your address on Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, and Arbitrum, then sweeps it to USDC on Base.

Phantom runs across Solana plus the EVM and Bitcoin networks it has added, from one wallet.

Token support

USDC anchors the wallet; Mo also supports ETH, cbBTC, cbHYPE, SOL, other stablecoins, and Coinbase's tokenized US stocks.

Phantom supports SPL tokens on Solana alongside assets on its other connected networks.

Tokenized stocks support

Coinbase's tokenized US stocks trade with live pricing for eligible non-US users, right inside Trade.

Eligible users can buy, sell, and hold xStocks and Ondo tokenized stocks in Phantom; availability varies by issuer and region.

Points program

Mo Points build from holding a balance, Travel spend, and referrals. They are redeemable for Travel checkout, a bank-withdrawal-fee offset, Mo Plus, or Mystery Stock. See Rewards.
