What is PAXG?
Pax Gold (PAXG) is a gold-backed token issued by Paxos, and PAXG on Base is a cross-chain version of it. Each token is backed by one fine troy ounce of a London Good Delivery gold bar. The gold is stored in LBMA vaults in London and held in custody by Paxos Trust Company, N.A., which is regulated by the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). Because PAXG represents physical gold, its value tracks the market price of gold, and holders can own a fraction of a bar. Paxos publishes attestation reports on the gold backing PAXG each month. What to weigh
- Gold prices can change sharply, and past performance does not indicate future results.
- A transfer can be delayed or lost if the network is congested, the wrong network is selected, or the destination address is incorrect.
- PAXG on Base relies on the cross-chain link to Paxos’s main PAXG token, and trading on Base can be thin, so large orders can move the price.
- The token depends on Paxos custody of the underlying gold and its redemption arrangements, which may change. Check Paxos’s monthly attestation reports.
